WebMar 13, 2024 · Now I can't get it in gear at all and the clutch pedal has lost all resistance. Even when the car is off, I can't get it to shift into the different gears. Called shop and they said since it won't shift into gear when engine is off then it has to be something other than the clutch, but they had no ideas what it could be... WebJan 18, 2024 · If it pushes easily it may actually still be in neutral; in that case you should be able to get it into first by applying pressure to the shift lever while pushing the bike (again, without applying the clutch lever). As it slips into first the bike should stop moving. If that's how it pans out, then I'd say your clutch disks are stuck together.

When you are on level ground this tension/force is relaxed and the shift action should be normal.
WebSep 26, 2024 · If I turn the key on but don't fire the engine, I can stick shift with no problems through all the gears. As soon as the engine runs, I have to put all my force into moving the shift stick to the point where it feels like something is going to snap. I immediately packed it up and got it into my garage before anything major broke. Low or dirty ATF, slipping clutch packs and bands, or weak or broken springs that cushion/dampen clutch pack and band engagement will cause an AT to jerk when put into or shifting gears. An engine running rough due to an ignition problem can also cause jerking when shifting into gear. An AT specialist has the tools to diagnose these problems.
